‘Yelling Into The Wind’ is a site-specific, community oriented public art work that reimagines the art space and conceptualizes unused areas as an exhibition location. The artist seeks to utilize the unused airspace, flying and hanging flags emblazoned with phrases gathered from people in the surrounding neighborhoods of the installations. The flags themselves are phrases of freedom, relatable to everyone yet specific to the person who chooses the phrase. A flagpole or hanging flag is one of the most charged spaces in the world, and it goes largely ignored in an artistic context. Seeking to use this as a way to call attention to both the flag as a symbol and give voice to a member of the community, the artist has created the flags and poles as permanent and temporary installations that activate the space below it and brings attention to its site-specific location. The flags are installed in public locations both urban and remote.
